The Top Consideration of S’poreans’ Staycation Is Whether There’s Free Breakfast

Hands up if you’ve gone for a staycation in the past one year.

If you’ve your hands raised up in the air looking like an idiot, I don’t blame you.

For married couples, it’s the place when you relight the fire in your relationship. And for boy-girlfriends, it’s the perfect opportunity for you to reaffirm your love for one another.

And guess what? You’re not alone.

According to a survey done by Expedia, the demand for a staycation is increasing among Singaporeans.

The Brand Expedia Singapore Staycation Study (BESSS) has found that almost two-third of Singaporeans have gone for a staycation in the past one year.

Have three people in the office? Two of them have just taken leave this year for a staycation.

The study also added that demand for staycations has increased by 15 per cent from 2016 to 2017.

And the most surprising part: married couples with kids are the top group of Singaporeans who had gone on a staycation in the past 12 months.

Followed by those who are married without kids, then singles.

Got Free Breakfast Or Not?

Unsurprisingly, free breakfast and great deals are the top considerations when choosing a place to stay.

Nothing screams luxurious holiday than an atas international breakfast in an atas hotel lounge, no?

Plus, we’re Singaporeans. Hunting for deals, and utilising them is kind of in our blood.

And I kind of get why “having the cheapest prices” isn’t one of the top considerations, despite how we like it cheap, good and fresh.

When you’re going to go on a staycation, you’re probably ready to dish out some serious moolah.

If not, why bother when your house is probably more comfortable than the hotel you’re going to stay at?

Plus, convenient locations would probably not be a huge factor considering you’re not going to go out and shop in your home country.

In fact, using the hotel facilities and just lepak-ing in one corner is the top choice for staycationeers.

Reasons Why Singaporeans Are Starting To Pick Staycations Over Vacations

So, the question of the day: why would you pick a staycation over a vacation? Well, one reason could be that you don’t have to go through all the hassle of going overseas in order to enjoy a holiday.

In Singapore, you can just pack an overnight bag, book a hotel and take a bus or MRT to the place.

No more frustrating flight delays, uncomfortable flights and forking out hundreds or thousands of dollars.

Or, you can just do a few staycations to keep you sane until your well-deserved holiday with your friends in Taiwan arrives.

And the best part? You can do this anytime you like. In fact, you can do it tomorrow if you want.

That’s if you can bear to spend a few hundred dollars for a one night stay in Singapore.

For me, I’ll even bear the jam and go over to JB for a staycation. It’s cheaper and there are loads more to explore.

But that’s just me lah. What about you?
