Parents these days can get pretty creative with their names. Thanks to them, there are people out there with names like “Abcdef”.
It’s pronounced “Ab-si-dee”, if you’re curious.
There was even one girl who went on Oprah in 1997 after she won the Guinness World Record for the title “longest personal name” at the time. Her name has over 1000 letters and because her name was too long, her parents had to staple a separate sheet of paper just for her name on her birth certificate.
Here’s the video:
But some celebrity parents tend to give their children more unique names that get people talking. You’ll be surprised by how a seemingly normal word can become someone’s name.
Here’s a list of the top 10 most unique celebrity kid names.
1. North West
Nope, it’s not me typing out the directions to a place but the name of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West daughter.
They have a knack for choosing baby names that make headlines.
The name ‘North’ has been described as a strong name and Kim’s mother, Kris Jenner had said that Kim chose the name because “North means highest power and she says that North is their highest point together”.
Her name is sometimes shortened to “Nori” or “Northi” by her family members.
Unlike her other siblings, North does not have a middle name, making “North West” her full name.
2. Blue Ivy
This is what I mean by how seemingly normal words can become a baby’s name.
I guess it comes as no surprise if your parents happen to be Beyonce and Jay-Z (Shawn Carter), arguably the world’s most famous singer and rapper.
The US Weekly Reports had said that Jay-Z has made it clear that the colour blue is special to him with three of his albums titled “Blueprint”, “Blueprint 2” and “The Blueprint 3”.
“Ivy” references the Roman numeral “IV” which represents the number four. It is a significant number as 4 April 2008 is the date that they were married on, 4 September is Beyonce’s birthday and 4 December is Jay’Z birthday.
Beyonce also posted the below excerpt from Rebecca Solnit’s 2005 novel “A Field Guide to Getting Lost” on her Tumblr. It was said that the novel had inspired her baby’s name.
However, there were bizarre theories surrounding the name with people speculating that it is an anagram for the name “Eulb Yvi” which is Latin for “Lucifer’s daughter”.
3. Bear
It sounds like a cute name for a child but can you imagine calling a 30-year-old “Bear”?
“So you’re not planning on having him attend middle school?”, joked James Van Der Beek when he appeared as a guest star along with Liam Payne on the Late Late Show.
Bear Grey Payne is the child of Liam Payne and Cheryl Cole. Liam Payne was a member of the popular boyband, One Direction. In a weird twist of fate, Cheryl Cole was one of the judges on the panel when Liam first auditioned on X-Factor.
Even though the celeb parents have chosen to keep their baby Bear away from the spotlight and has never shown his face in public, Liam revealed on the show that they chose the name because he kept making “grunting noises” after his birth.
He was making noises even while he was sleeping. It concerned medics and “specialists were running in and out of the hospital”.
But Liam knew that he was fine.
“And that’s carried on ever since, so he’s just become Bear.”, said Liam.

4. Kulture
If I didn’t know any better, I would have thought that the word means “Korean Culture”.
Kulture Kiari Cephus, is the child of rappers Cardi B and Offset.
Fans had wondered if the name was a reference to Migos’ last two albums, 2017’s Culture and its successor Culture ll, released earlier this year.
However, in a tweet on twitter, the rapper simply said “Kulture, anything else woulda been basic”.

Fair enough.
5. Gravity
Perhaps her parents, American actor and model Lucky Blue Smith and American singer, actor and model Stormi Bree had set sights for her to have a future in the world of physics.
Smith, 18 and Bree, 26 first announced they were expecting a child in March 2017.
They first released photos of their daughter, Gravity Blue Smith on Instagram on 27 July 2017.
6. Cricket Pearl
No… it’s not the name of some exotic cricket snack but the name of the second daughter of actress Busy Philipps and Marc Silverstein.
Kathie Lee Gifford asked Philipps where the name came from on TODAY.
Philipps explained that “Busy”, short for Elizabeth, was a nickname that she had grown up with. So, she and her husband decided that if they wanted to call their kids something, they “would just name that thing that we wanted to call them.”
Their eldest daughter is named Birdie Leigh.

And as if having celeb parents ain’t enough, such unique names will definitely distinguish the girls from the crowd.
7. Dusty Rose
It sounds like an object.
But believe it or not, “Dusty” is the name that Ellen DeGeneres gave to Adam Levine for his child when he reached out to her.
Dusty Rose is Adam Levine’s eldest daughter.
On The Ellen DeGeneres Show, he revealed that naming his first child was daunting.
“Imagine you’re writing the best song you’ve ever written in your life and you have to name it”, said the frontman of the popular pop band, Maroon 5.
When he first landed on what he thought was the perfect name he ran it by Ellen and she said “I hate it. I think it’s a terrible name”. And that was when Ellen gave him five names to think about, one of which was Dusty.
“I did name your kid!”, exclaimed Ellen.
8. Usher
“Hey isn’t that the name of a rapper?”
Yup! Rapper Usher Raymond IV has named his child Usher Raymond V in hopes of continuing a family tradition.
On the Ellen DeGeneres show, he revealed that he’s “the fourth”.
“I just want to pass the name on. Maybe I’ll change the middle name,” said Usher.
9. Apple
Apple should give her a lifetime supply of Apple products.
Actress Gwyneth Paltrow and her musician ex-husband Chris Martin named their daughter Apple Blythe Alison Martin.
In a candid interview with Hello! Canada Magazine, Gwyneth explained that it was all Chris Martin’s idea.
When her then-husband suggested the name “Apple”, she “loved it straightaway”.
“I thought it was so unique and sounded cool”, she said.
10. Kal-El
If you’re familiar with the Superman series, you would have heard of the name Kal-El as that is Superman’s birth name.
Like any other parent, Actor Nicholas Cage’s ex-wife wanted a unique and beautiful name for their child.
He first suggested “Kyle” but she said that was something more unusual than beautiful. He then remembered the old Superman comics and how Kal-El was his original name on Krypton.
Since the name stood for something good, was unique and American, he thought it was a perfect fit.
“It had kind of a magical ring to it”, said Cage.
Kal-El is now 13-years-old and has made his acting debut just last year as a young Bruce Wayne.
These names are certainly unique and hold special meaning. Would you give your child a unique name? Or would you prefer a more mainstream and basic name like “John”?
