Woman Gave Birth in Hospital Without Disclosing Her COVID-19 Status & Caused Hospital to Shut Down in M’sia

Health Minister Gan Kim Yong has said it.

The three teenagers arrested for spitting in this sensitive period has experienced it.

And people who breached LOA has suffered for it.

But does this need to be repeated again? Apparently, yes.

So here we go: Be socially responsible or the men in blue (or white, depending on what you did) will come for you.

But jokes aside, social responsibility is serious business.

You’d never know whether your behaviour, which might have been done a whim, will bring about consequences so dire you would pay a million dollars to turn time back.

Just like what this lady did.

Woman Went To Hospital Hiding Her Status

On 21 Mar 2020, The Star reported that a private hospital in Kedah will be shut down temporarily.

The reason? They had a mother who decided to give birth at the hospital.

Which isn’t a big issue, really, except she didn’t tell them that she had been living with a Covid-19 patient.

What Happened

When the woman visited the hospital, the woman did not give “full disclosure” during the screening process.

Thereafter, she was admitted into the hospital for her delivery.

Everything seems fine until after the delivery when she developed a fever.

After questioning her, the hospital realised that she had been living with a family member who attended the religious event in Kuala Lumpur.

The family member tested positive for the coronavirus.

Hospital Taking Precaution Measures

The hospital will be shut down on 22 and 23 Mar 2020 for fumigation.

Staff who had interacted with the patient identified, quarantined and tested for the Covid-19.

Thankfully, their tests returned negative.

Areas which the woman has gone through has been disinfected as well.

The hospital reveals that they will resume clinical services on 24 Mar 2020.

So Be Socially Responsible

Countries all around the world are concerned about not having enough healthcare facilities to handle the sudden inflow of patients, especially Italy and Spain.

The hospital hopes that its patrons will be socially responsible and be fully honest when giving information during the screening process.

They added that everyone must help out in order to successfully curb Covid-19.

Now, before you laugh at Malaysia and go, aiya, Malaysia boleh; just know that this isn’t a problem exclusive to Malaysia.

In Singapore, teenagers were arrested for spitting from the upper levels of a shopping mall and people were caught breaching Leave of Absences, with some still working at their workplace.

Just remember this: even if only one person in the whole of Singapore is socially irresponsible, we’ll never be able to successfully curb Covid-19.
