As you may unfortunately know, neighbours these days aren’t very neighbourly at all.
Instead of greeting us with gentle smiles, some of them place bloody pig’s ears on our shoe racks and even fling faeces at our doors.
This time, instead of animal pars or manure, hot soup was one neighbour’s weapon of choice.
Woman in Hougang Poured Hot Soup on Elderly Neighbour’s Back & Hit Her Head with the Metal Food Container
When you buy some food from the coffee shop for dinner, you’re probably not expecting it to land on your back afterwards.
But that’s exactly what happened to one woman recently.
After getting dinner from a coffee shop, the woman was on her way back to her flat at Block 658 Hougang Ave 8 when she bumped into her neighbours – a 74-year-old woman and her 55-year-old daughter.
It didn’t take long for an argument to arise as the two parties already had ill-feeling towards each other.
The argument soon escalated into a full-blown physical fight, and this where the hot soup entered the picture.
According to the woman’s husband, the mother and daughter duo snatched the metal food container the woman was carrying and poured the hot soup onto her back, causing her to fall down.
They allegedly kept hitting the woman over the head with the container until she grabbed it back, and struck the 74-year-old on the head, causing her to bleed.
The 74-year-old’s granddaughter denied this sequence of events, however, claiming the woman had attacked them first.
All Three Women Arrested For Affray
A video shared by the woman’s daughter showed the duo, who were incensed, swearing at the woman.
She said two students had stepped in to protect her mother while other neighbours held the mother and daughter back.
Speaking to AsiaOne, the police confirmed that they arrested all three women for affray.
Two of them were treated for minor injuries by the Singapore Civil Defence Force but refused to be conveyed to the hospital.
Police investigations are currently ongoing.
The offence of affray carries a jail term of up to one year, a fine of up to S$5000, or both.
Bad Blood Caused By Missing Child
According to the woman’s younger daughter, things between both families were fine and dandy until a child went missing earlier this year.
“The old woman has a granddaughter in her 30s, who is a mother of two young sons. One of them went missing one day and she blamed my older sister for it,” she shared. “Even after the child was found, she still held a grudge against my sister,” she said
The other family, however, denied this, claiming the woman had frequently harassed them by pacing in front of their door, and even kicked a toy bicycle that was placed at their door once.
We may not always have the energy to raise the corners of our lips to our neighbours. But the least we can do is avoid throwing soup at them and striking them with metal containers.
