Yishun Has A Community Fridge Which Lets People Donate & Collect Free Food

Hear the word Yishun and you might think of dead cats, paranormal activity or violent happenings in general.

But perhaps this skewed perception we have towards this particular neighbourhood is a result of the media.

Maybe Yishun isn’t actually that bad after all…

Yishun Has A Community Fridge Which Lets People Donate & Collect Free Food

A non-profit organisation named Free Food For All has collaborated with Chong Pang Community Club to set up a community fridge that is aimed at helping the community.

A community fridge? That’s the most ingenious idea ever. It even has a little Halal section.

The fridge is backed by Darul Makmur Mosque and was officially launched on 11 January on a Saturday.

The Minister for Home Affairs & Law K Shanmugam was the guest-of-honour to grace the event.

If you’re thinking of dropping by or spreading the news, the community fridge can be found near Darul Makmur Mosque at Blk 162 Yishun Street 11.

There is hope that this initiative will kill two birds with one stone by helping the needy save on food spendings and at the same time reduce food waste.

Using The Fridge Responsibly

If you have plans to pay this community fridge a visit, do note that there are some regulations you’ll have to follow unless you want to feel Yishun’s wrath.

Some of these rules include the obvious, such as only taking what you need. You also aren’t allowed to place food items in the fridge and do remember to keep the fridge door closed.

You know, general fridge etiquette. But you also need to remain vigilant and check if the food is edible or if it has gone bad, lest you get food poisoning.

For those of you who want to donate items, you can always contact the organisers Free Food For All and Chong Pang CC for more information.
