On Monday night (16 March), Malaysia’s Prime Minister announced that the country would be on lockdown from 18 March until the end of the month to try and control the spread of Covid-19.
And while Singaporeans were panic buying toilet paper, hundreds of thousands of Malaysians working in and who commute daily to Singapore had to rush across the border to gather their belongings as Singapore will be their home for the next two weeks.
However, many couldn’t pack enough of their essentials in time, and some Malaysians didn’t even have time to go back to Malaysia to retrieve their belongings due to the tight deadline.
Feel bad for them? Well, thankfully, there’s something you can do.
You Can Donate Essentials for M’sian Workers Who Had to Rush Over to S’pore Before M’sia Lockdown
Druggists, a craft beer bar in Singapore, is calling upon Singaporeans to donate essentials to the Malaysian workers who may not have been able to retrieve enough of their belongings.
The craft beer bar made the request in an Instagram post, detailing the plight of many of these workers.
According to Druggists, many Malaysian workers who made it across the border could not pack enough items because their bags were too heavy to carry.
Some of their bags even broke as they trudged 4km across the border.
They then posted a list of all the essentials that Singaporeans can donate to these poor workers.
In case you can’t see it, these essentials include:
Toiletries
- Shampoo
- Body Soap
- Facial Cleanser
- Hair Gel/Wax
- Nail Clippers
- Tissue Paper
- Wet Wipes
- Cotton Buds
- Moisturiser
Clothing (Must be clean)
- Shirts and Shorts for Sleep
- T-Shirts for Work
- Shirts for Work
- Pants/Jeans for Work
- Towels
- Socks
For their Rest (Must be clean)
- Bedsheets and Pillow Covers
- Blanket
- Pillows
Food (Must be Unopened)
- Canned and Packet Food they can easily heat up and consume
- Packaged drinks such as Milo, Cereals, and Coffee
Others
- Washing powder
The situation is so bad for some of these workers that they have no place to stay, which is why a few workers were seen sleeping outside Kranji MRT station.
It’s time to help our neighbours out by donating the items which could help them greatly in this hour of need.

Druggists also encouraged affected Malaysian workers to not be paiseh and come down to collect these essentials at the same locations.
