You Can Watch Olympics: Tokyo Games on Mediacorp meWatch’s Channels

As we gear up for the Olympics (finally!), we’re probably looking to have another Joseph-Schooling-Gold-moment just like the one 5 years ago—everyone on their feet screaming their lungs out as they’re glued to the screen.

And to do exactly that, we should probably find out how we can watch the Games on the big or small screen.

Luckily, our beloved media monopoly, Mediacorp, will be providing everyone with many ways to catch the action live across the 17-day event!

You Can Watch Olympics: Tokyo Games on Mediacorp meWatch’s Channels

Its coverage of the Olympic Games includes athletics, badminton, football, swimming and table tennis, as well as the opening and closing ceremonies, which will take place on 23 July and 8 August respectively.

According to The Straits Times, you’ll be able to stream the event on 14 channels on their streaming service meWatch, as well as Mediacorp’s partner’s platforms.

All 14 of these channels will be free on meWatch.sg and on the meWatch app. Notably, one of these channels will be focused on Singaporean athletes and their events at the Games.

As reported by CNA, Channel 5 will also be airing more than 200 hours of coverage. Breaking news and updates will also be available across the company’s news bulletins, radio stations and digital portals—CNA, TODAY, 8Days, Berita Mediacorp and Seithi Mediacorp.

In addition, Singtel customers will be able to watch the Olympic Games broadcast for free through Singtel TV, Singtel TV Go and on the CAST mobile app.

As for Starhub customers, the company said that it intends to carry all the channels and is currently discussing with Mediacorp to finalise this deal.

Ms Angeline Poh, Mediacorp’s chief customer and corporate development officer said: “As the national media network, we hope to bring our communities together in this global showcase of athletic achievement.

“Through Mediacorp’s extensive coverage, audiences can look forward to catching the Olympic Games, live and on demand from the comfort and safety of their homes.”

PM Lee Cheers Team Singapore On

Earlier in May, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong gave a message of support to our athletes through Facebook, noting that the pandemic has deeply affected the sporting community.

He also wrote about the Team Singapore campaign, meant to show support to our local Olympic and Paralympic athletes who have been training hard despite the disruptions. The inspiring video featured many of our local sportspersons, which you can watch, here!
