There’s a reason why people say being a parent is hard work. It’s not just financial hardships, it’s physically exhausting as well.

Especially when you bring them out because you have to keep an eye on them all the time. If not, accidents might happen.

As the mom who was so busy playing with her handphone she didn’t know her daughter fell onto the train tracks has learnt.

And now, just two weeks into 2020, a freak accident involving a young girl has surfaced on the internet.

“Young Girl’s Top Eyelid Sliced Open In Freak Accident”

6-year-old Cecilia Chen was shopping at Chatswood Chase shopping centre with her grandmother on 8 Jan 2020.

Her grandmother was distracted looking at clothes on the top rack when Cecilia saw a pink t-shirt that she really, really liked.

She tried to reach for it but wasn’t tall enough to do so.

And so, she tried to jump for it.

That Was When Things Took A Turn For The Worse

Cecilia lost her balance and smashed eye-first into a metal hook on the lower racks.

Her top eyelid, including eyelashes, were sliced off in a horrifying fashion and the girl was left screaming in pain.

She was rushed to Randwick Children Hospital and entered surgery seven hours later.

“She Will Never Look The Same Again.”

Thankfully, her eyeball wasn’t damaged. However, her parents said that she will never look the same again.

The surgeons took four hours to restore her eyelid and she had to undergo plastic surgery to restore her eyelid muscle and lacrimal gland.

Her right eyelid, according to her parents, will be lower and smaller forever. It will also take a long time for her eyesight to return to normal.

The parents did not blame the grandmother, saying that everything happened so suddenly she couldn’t have reacted in time.

They will, however, be petitioning for the shopping centre to make the clothes rack safer for children.

This, they claimed, isn’t the first time such incidents happened.

Always Keep An Eye Out On Your Kids

If you’re a parent, remember to always keep an eye out for your kids when you bring them out.

After all, you don’t want them to end up with lifelong damage just because of a moment of inattention on your part, right?
