You’ve heard of the one-eyed jack. But have you heard of… the one-eyed jack with the thousand-dollar ensemble?
Probably not – because he’s been in jail for the past four years.
The second-in-command of Japan’s largest Yakuza group, Yamaguchi-gumi’s Kiyoshi Takayama, made his formal exit from Fuchu prison at 5.50 am of last Friday, 18 October, clad in Berluti.
Yes, he was wearing Berluti.
Berluti Gang; Berluti Gang
Thanks to the watchful eyes of our friends back on Twitter, we were able to identify the 72-year-old’s choice of clothing…
All of which are worth more than what I have saved in the span of my entire lifetime.
Berluti is a subsidiary brand of Louis Vuitton. Unlike the latter, Berluti caters high-fashion pieces of clothing and other accessories for men.
The point here is, he came out decked with an average person’s six months worth of salary… From jail! Where got like that one sia.
Got lah, Kong Hee lah.
Here’s his sartorial choice of clothing:
Mr Takayama’s hoodie cost a whopping S$10,134 while his patterned button-up was S$1,656. That amounts up to a total of S$11,790!
One can only dream of ever living to see that amount on the screens of an ATM.
Of course, let us not forget the cherry on top, packaging it all for the iconic outfit that it is today, his neck brace.

Mekkachi The “One-Eyed Gangster”
So how exactly did he end up in jail in the first place?
The second-in-command of Yamaguchi-gumi, Kiyoshi Takayama, was convicted of extortion in 2013.
His nickname “Mekkachi” was derived from the eye that he had reportedly lost during a sword fight early in his career.
At least he’s got an eye for what’s hot and what’s not this season. Even jail couldn’t keep him from keeping up with the times.
