Sibling rivalry is not exactly uncommon.
Even the smallest of things can cause siblings to fight, such as jealousy over how the other is treated.
Typically, siblings bury the hatchet and make peace not long after a squabble. The worst that can happen is that they stop speaking and seeing each other altogether.
But nothing as shocking as this usually occurs:
Teenager Found Dead, Brother Charged With Attack
At about 6.30 am last Thursday (6 May), the police were alerted to a case of unnatural death at a residential unit along Clementi West Street 1.
When officers arrived on the scene, the motionless body of a 19-year-old girl was found. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 29-year-old man was arrested for his suspected involvement in the murder after the body was discovered.
Preliminary investigations later revealed that the man is the victim’s biological brother.
Now it turns out that two other people may have been involved in the fatal attack.
What Happened
The suspect, Huang Bocan, allegedly struck his sister – identified as Huang Baoying – with a wooden pole at about 11pm that day in their Clementi flat.
Later that day, Huang was charged with voluntarily causing grievous hurt to his teenage sister. No further details of the incident were made known to the public.
After the attack, a police prosecutor told the court that Huang had a medical certificate that granted him five days of sick leave.
However, District Judge Terence Tay ordered for him to be remanded at the Central Police Division for further investigations.
2 More Charged Over Death of 19YO in Clementi Flat
Since then, two more individuals have been charged over the death of the 19-year-old girl.
They are:
- Chee Mei Wan, a 41-year-old female Singaporean permanent resident
- Lim Peng Tiong, a 62-year-old male Singaporean
Both were charged yesterday (12 May) with allegedly forming a common intention with Huang to voluntarily causing grievous hurt to the deceased teenager.
Huang, who was the first to be charged, has had his charge sheet amended to reflect this common intention with Chee and Lim.
The three suspects are expected to return to court on 19 May and will be remanded at the Central Police Division until then.
Huang, a Singaporean, does not face any murder charge at the moment.
The offence of voluntarily causing grievous hurt carries a penalty of up to 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine, caning, or any combination of these punishments.
