When talking about online dating, I’m sure many of you would fight to share about your own horror experiences.
While there are those who have found success in online dating, others may not have and may have encountered weird or unpleasant experiences instead.
But I’m fairly certain that out of all the online dating horror stories, this one takes the cake.
According to BuzzFeed, a 25-year-old hairstylist by the name of Kevin Bacon was matched with 50-year-old Mark Latunski on Grindr, the popular gay online dating platform, sometime before Christmas. They decided to have a date on Christmas Eve, but Bacon didn’t return home afterwards.
Sensing that something was amiss, Bacon’s family and friends reported him missing and also put up a missing notice on Facebook in hopes that they could find him.
Three days later, the police decided to search Latunski’s house in Bennington Township, Michigan and they found Bacon’s naked body still hanging upside down from the ceiling.
What Happened?
According to Detective Sergeant James Moore, Latunski said that he stabbed Bacon in the back once with a knife and slit his throat before tying his legs to the rafters on the ceiling using a rope. He then proceeded to cut off his testicles, cook it, and eat it.
The police believe that Bacon was probably already dead when Latunski cut off his testicles.
Well, I sure hope that that was true. I can’t imagine feeling the pain in my back as I watch someone else cut off my limb, just so that he can eat it. It’s very unfortunate that he had to go this way, and I just hope that his suffering wasn’t prolonged.
“I’m Not Mark Latunski”
During a court hearing on 30 December, Latunski apparently claimed that his real name was not Mark Latunski but instead, Edgar Thomas Hill. He went on to add that Latunski was actually his nephew’s name.
According to The Flint Journal, Latunski had a history of mental illness. This was partially reported in a court motion from his ex-wife in August last year to cut short the time he has with his children. He has been diagnosed with depression, paranoid schizophrenia, and a personality disorder. He also had a habit of not taking his medication.
Following this news, Bacon’s parents warned others of meeting people online because they may not be who they say they are. It is true that people can always fake their identity, so always exercise precautions.
His parents also said that this news was shocking to them and they “barely have the time to process it”.
I hope that the victim rests in peace and justice will be served so that his family can get through this trying time.
