Trump Tests Negative for COVID-19 Despite Being in Close Contact with 2 COVID-19 Cases

The Covid-19 virus does not discriminate.

Even if you’re a Hollywood star like Tom Hanks who’s one of the most recognisable faces on the planet, the coronavirus will still get you.

That’s why when news emerged that the ‘Leader of the Free World’ had contact with a man who tested positive for the disease, people started wondering: will the most powerful man in the world be stricken down with the deadly coronavirus?

Well, we now have an answer.

Trump Tests Negative for COVID-19

President Donald Trump has tested negative for the novel coronavirus, the White House announced on Saturday (13 Mar).

His physician previously said that there was no need for a test even though some were concerned about Trump’s potential exposure to two individuals at Mar-a-Lago last week.

They ended up going ahead with the test, however, even though he had no symptoms.

As Trump would say – This is good news, really good news, probably the best news ever reported in the history of news. Bigly.

Declared a National Emergency

On Friday (12 Mar),  Trump declared a national emergency, after his many attempts to downplay the severity of the disease in the United States.

2,300 people have been infected there and 50 have died so far.

Trump said he would “unleash the full power of the federal government” against the spreading illness.

Covid-19: Ooh I’m so scared

“The next eight weeks are critical,” Trump said. “We can learn and we will turn a corner on this virus”.

Several Lawmakers Have Self-quarantined

Trump may have tested negative for the virus, but several members of Congress were likely exposed to the virus after interacting with someone who tested positive for it after attending the Conservative Political Action Conference.

Four Republican lawmakers – Sen. Ted Cruz, Rep. Doug Collins, Rep. Matt Gaetz and Rep. Paul Gosar – self-quarantined after coming into contact with the coronavirus patient at CPAC.

Many Politicians Are Testing Positive For Covid-19

Outside the US, many politicians have contracted the disease, including the Indonesian Transport Minister and Iraj Harirchi, the head of the Iranian counter-coronavirus task force.

But why politicians?

Well, there are several reasons, according to experts.

One is that politicians are in contact with many many people, probably more than the average person. “They are always shaking hands and always meeting people. That might explain it,” one expert said.

Politicians may also be more likely to get tested for coronavirus quickly, compared to the average citizen.

They also tend to be older than the median age, and thus likelier to be susceptible to catching the virus.

As I said, the Covid-19 virus does not discriminate.
