Singer Participates In Competition To Pay Mum’s Medical Bills; Finds Out She Passed Away During Her Performance

It’s easy to scoff at the headline. “Singer Participates In Competition To Pay Mum’s Medical Bills; Finds Out She Passed Away During Her Performance,” your inner skeptic resonates. “How coincidental could it be? It’s obviously staged for sympathy votes. I’ve seen it dozens of times before. Wake me up when it’s something fresh, alright?”

And to be fair, it does stir the faintest of doubts. A singer participates in a competition to pay off her mum’s medical bills, only to find out that her mother has passed away during her live performance? Not on my top 10 ‘most believable moments’, honestly. And yet, I couldn’t help but feel heart-wrenched as I delved more into her tale.

If this is fake, I don’t know what’s real anymore.

For Jannah, Liga Dangdut Indonesia (LIDA) was everything. According to World Of Buzz, she aimed to clinch the Indonesian TV singing competition’s top prize, in order to secure funds for her mother’s medical bills.

Things seemed to be going well too. She was selected to proceed to the next round, so you could say that it was a step closer to fulfilling her wish.

And then the call was made.

According to the Malaysian news site, the production decided to do something nice for Jannah by dialling her relative that was taking care of her mother, her uncle Pak Mus, live on TV to let him know the good news.

The good news, however, was ultimately outweighed by the bad news.

When Jannah inquired about her mother’s welfare, and where the latter was, her uncle revealed the truth:

“Jannah, your mother said, be strong, for you will have to take care of your family now. We love her as a family but unfortunately Allah loved her more, he has called to her. Your mother has passed away.”

“Only 14-years-old and succeeded in going on to the next round of Liga Dangdut Indonesia 2020,” the Twitter user wrote.

“At the moment that she was happy and wanted to share the good news with her family, her uncle gave her bad news. Her mother had passed away just a few minutes before. Heart broken.”

I’m not one to tear easily. But the sight of a young daughter breaking down, and the emotional faces of the judges as they stood beside her, damn near made me.

We here at Goody Feed express our sincere condolences towards Jannah and her family, and hope that she’ll be able to win the competition, if not for herself…

Then for her deceased mother, who must be so proud of what her young daughter has achieved.
