As we’ve seen throughout the pandemic, the number of new COVID-19 cases tends to fluctuate from day to day.
So, just because it’s stayed under 2,000, for instance, doesn’t mean it will continue to do so for a long period of time.
In fact, now that we’ve eased more restrictions, we can expect more rises and falls in our daily caseload.
2,079 New COVID-19 Cases
2,079 new COVID-19 cases were reported yesterday (24 Nov), an increase of 297 from the previous day’s tally.
The cases comprise 2,030 infections in the community, 40 in migrant worker dormitories, and nine imported infections.
Among the local cases are 312 seniors above 60.
6 COVID-19 Deaths
Six more COVID-19 cases succumbed to the virus, bringing our death toll to 678.
Aged between 60 and 83, all of them had various underlying medical conditions, except for an unvaccinated case.
MOH Closely Monitoring Four Large Clusters
The Ministry of Health (MOH) is closely monitoring four large clusters with new cases, the largest of which is at Jenaris Home @ Pelangi Village, with 94 infections. 92 residents and two staff members have been infected there.
Seven cases were added to the cluster at Pacific Healthcare Nursing Home in Lengkok Bahru, bringing its total to 32. All those infected at the nursing home are residents.
The Society for the Aged Sick cluster grew to 24 after three more cases were linked to it. Of the 24 cases, two are staff and 22 are residents.
The last cluster, at Sunlove Senior Care Centre @ 70 Buangkok View, swelled to 24 infections, comprising two staff members, 17 clients, and five household members.
1,365 COVID-19 Cases in Hospital; 93 in ICU
At the moment, there are 1,365 COVID-19 cases warded in hospitals, most of whom are well and under observation.
203 serious cases require oxygen supplementation and 93 are in the intensive care unit, comprising 34 cases who are unstable and under close monitoring, and 59 who are critically ill and intubated.
Our ICU utilisation rate is currently at 56.1%, an increase from Tuesday’s 55.2%.
Over the past seven days, the number of fully vaccinated and non-fully vaccinated cases who have been critically ill in the ICU are at 0.5 and 4.6 per 100,000 population respectively.
The same figures for seniors aged 60 and above are 1.6 and 41.8 respectively.
Over the same period, the number of fully vaccinated and non-fully vaccinated cases who died are 0.04 and 0.6 per 100,000 population respectively.
The same figures for seniors aged 60 and above are 0.2 and 7.0 respectively.
Currently, 85% of our population has been fully vaccinated and 86% have received at least one dose. 24% have received their booster shots.
