Health Minister Gan Kim Yong has an unpopular opinion to share with Singaporeans.
Covid-19 might be around “for a long time”. And it might the number of cases might increase.
Why? How come?! Is it us?! Is it my habit to dig my nose?!
Nope.
Apparently, It’s The Rest Of The World
Singapore has been acknowledged as the best country in the world when it comes to detecting and containing Covid-19.
But outside of Singapore, Covid-19 has been running rampantly, appearing in 77 different countries all around the world.
Previously, he had already mentioned that no matter how good Singapore’s health system is, as long as the rest of the world can’t handle Covid-19, they’ll continue bringing the virus into Singapore.
For example, the imported case from the Turkish airline flight that just happened recently.
Then, Can’t We Keep Them Out?
In short? No.
We’re like Liverpool. We don’t walk alone.
Or, to be more exact, we can’t walk alone.
Cutting ourselves off from the rest of the world is equivalent to cutting ourselves…in the balls.
For one, Singapore’s styled itself as the strategic hub to set up HQs for the Asia Pacific Region (APAC) region. And our economy depends a lot on the money and jobs coming into the country.
Plus, we’ve always styled ourselves as an education hub where people all over the world wants to come and study in.
For another, a lot of people in Singapore depend on tourists.
When Covid-19 started and Singapore’s tourism sector fell faster than my boss’s mouth when he sees a chocolate cake in front of him, thousands of people immediately cried for help.

Be Prepared For It To Be Long-Term
According to Minister Gan, Singapore has to continuously adjust to the situation as it evolves.
So far, the Covid-19 situation has been evolving rapidly in many different countries around the world and effective treatment and vaccines need time to be developed.
The government’s measures against the coronavirus will have to be adjusted for the possibility of a long term outbreak, he says.
The important thing right now is that everyone does their part and relevant agencies are able to “mount a swift and effective response” to any changes in the situation.
The government is also prepared to swiftly crush any “fake news” which might disrupt their efforts in handling the situation.
Life Must Go On
Now you’re struggling, eating maggie mee at home because you don’t dare to go out. And you’re thinking, this might take even longer? I miss my Zoukout!
Health Minister Gan said that the government will put appropriate precautions in place as the situation changes so that life will go on even with the Covid-19 hanging over our heads.
In other words, if you’re healthy, just go on and head out for a meal. You’ll thank me for it.
Now, before you think that’s impossible, H1N1 invaded Singapore back in 2009 as well and infected an estimated number of 270,000 people in Singapore.
Yet we were able to pull through just fine even without containing the virus.

Out of the remaining 33, 7 are in critical condition.
The NCID is now seeking consent from patients who’ve recovered from the coronavirus to use their blood plasma on Covid-19 patients.
In China, doctors who used this method said it ‘significantly’ improves the survival rate of Covid-19 patients.
