These might be what Gen Z do, but not an 80-year-old man.

Instead, he decided to grab a knife and slash the gossiper.

According to Shin Min Daily News, this happened on Friday (17 March), at around 6 pm.

The suspect, an 80-year-old man, and the victim, an 88-year-old man, are regulars at a coffeeshop at Block 122 along Ang Mo Kio Ave 3.

The stallholders said that they would come to the coffeeshop to eat and drink almost every day.

However, several days ago, the victim allegedly gossiped about the suspect when the suspect wasn’t around.

That was overheard by the suspect’s wife, who then went home to tell his husband about it.

The suspect then went to confront the victim in the coffeeshop, leading to a large argument at the coffeeshop.

It’s unknown what the gossip was about.

The suspect threatened to slash him, but the victim retorted, saying that he wasn’t afraid.

A day later, the suspect followed through on his threat.

He approached the victim on Friday, 6 pm, and slashed the victim’s face and arm. Passers-by immediately came forward to assist,.

The victim was taken Tan Tock Seng Hospital, and the suspect has been arrested for voluntarily causing grievous hurt with dangerous weapon.

If charged, the suspect could face imprisonment term of life imprisonment or imprisonment for a term which may extend to 15 years, and shall also be liable to a fine or to caning.

Last year, a man was jailed for 13 years and four months after attacking a safe-distancing officer with a 20.8cm-long blade back in 2020. The officer’s thumb was nearly severed.

His original sentence included 18 strokes of the cane, but due to his age (he was 62 years old), that was “converted” into the three months’ imprisonment instead, which was included in his final sentencing.
